Navigation

Unlock the mountains with a bespoke course to suit your current level of knowledge; Most walkers will fall into one of the 3 categories here, and in all cases, improving your skills is extremely rewarding - no matter where you start from.  When it comes to navigation - the more you know, the more you can do in the hills!
These are one or two day bespoke courses but can be combined and amended to suite your requirements.

Level 1

This is for people who mainly use smartphones or basic written guides such as books or blogs to get from A to B.

The main aim of the course is to make friends with the map (and to a lesser degree the compass), and to use these as the primary source of information to assist you on your day out.

Skill covered;

Map types, map scales, map symbols, relating the map to the ground in front of you, basic compass introduction, using the map to identify and walk along paths, walls and other obvious features.

Level 2

Suitable for those who take a map and compass on a walk, but perhaps don't feel as confident as they would like to when it comes to actually using them.

Skills covered;

Building on an existing basic knowledge, we will look at contour interpretation, and develop compass skills such as bearings and measuring distance.  We'll also introduce timings and pacing.  These skills will be the key to leaving those paths behind and blazing our own trail!

Level 3

For those who know how to move around the hills on or off paths, and who already use a map and compass to do so.

Skills covered;

Let's go full Jedi!  Fine contour detailing, accurate timing and pacing, zero visibility / night navigation.  Gain the skills to feel fully independent and comfortable on your adventures.

Cost; dependent on groups size and aims; min 2 max 8.  Get in touch to discuss your ideas...
